RCom partners with Nokia to provide personalised content

New Delhi : Anil Ambani-led Reliance Communications (RCom) Friday launched a new service to provide personalised content to subscribers on agriculture, education and entertainment in partnership with Finnish telecom hardware giant Nokia.

Called “Ovi Life Tools”, the new service will help farmers pose queries on crop price, fertiliser use, weather condition, soil health and the right sowing season, and domain experts will provide the answers.

In the case of entertainment, the main service is music download, for which the network assures access to as many as four million legal tracks in genres covering rock, rap, hip hop, bollywood, sufi, indipop, classical and popular regional songs.

RCom customers will now be able to download music up to 12 GB data usage with the help of this service.

In education, the subscriber can get information on aspects such as career management and jobs.

The company said Ovi Life tools will be offered under two packages — subscription-based and pay per use. While the subscription charges for education and entertainment are Rs.30 a month, the agriculture service costs Rs.60. The pay-per use is priced at Rs.3 per request.

“We have seen the sales of smartphones on our network increase manifold. With the rollout of 3G, we see a huge opportunity in fostering a mutually beneficial business relationship to offer customers unique voice and data as well as value added service innovations with Nokia,” said Vrajesh Shelat, head, wireless data services, RCom.

As part of this alliance, RCom also offered mobile data bundle of 1.2 GB on Nokia GRPS enabled handsets along with up to 1800 free on-net minutes bundled with Nokia 1800 with a validity of six months.

“These services have the potential to positively impact livelihoods and provide entertainment platforms to our consumers. Our association with Reliance Communications is an important step in the direction of creating a strong ecosystem that will take these services to a larger consumer base,” said V.
