German Bakery, Pune blast case- another mistake is repeated

By Rehan Ansari, TwoCircles.net

After the initial inquiry, Maharashtra ATS Chief Rakesh Maria announced, the arrest of two accused in the German bakery, Pune Blast case, Chief Minister Ashok Chavan awarded Rs.5 lacs prize for the ATS and the Maharashtra Home Minister R.R.Patil, declared the case as “Solved.”

Although ATS still has not filed the charge sheet and has taken remand of the Mirza Himayat Baig, 29 Years, and Sheikh Lalbaba Mohammed Hussain Farid alias Bilal, 27 years, for further investigation, the case is yet to begin in the court, why the Chief Minister and the Home Minister repeated the same mistake of the Union Home Minister P.Chidambram in the same case.

In the same German bakery Pune Blast case, Police agencies although never said but encouraged the understanding that Abdul Samad Bhatkal is the accused and CCTV camera footage was shown in the media. P Chidambaram congratulated ATS for the good work.

Initial findings have proved to be wrong many times. It has happened after the initial findings, Police agencies could not prove their charges in the court of law and in fact the reality was altogether different. Other sets of accused were arrested as in the case of Ajmer Sharif Dargah, Malegaon and Makka Masjid blast.

Then is it the public or media pressure that compels the police and politicians to declare in advance that the case is solved and award the police? Aren’t they trying to influence the court against the accused that can be innocent and in favor of police who can be wrong. Is it not the contempt of court that even before the charge-sheet is filed the accused is pronounced guilty by the Police and the Politicians?

Argument that in few cases police can make mistakes can be accepted but it’s happening repeatedly.

Media questions investigative agencies and politicians and they have every right but it’s the duty of our Investigative agencies and Politicians to protect the accused’s honor unless proved guilty.

The court must take strict notice of such kind of Press Conferences by any security agencies and the announcement of politicians.

It’s not the question of Hindu and Muslims but of the irresponsible behavior of the concerned authorities. Many lives have been ruined just because of the terrorist allegations. The sole bread earners are not getting good job to sustain their family. Educated boys are driving taxis, frequent air travelers are spending their life in villages. What’s the solution?

We, as a society, must evolve a system that should not harm an innocent’s image or at least we should leave a room for rectifications that can save the life of a family, the basic unit of any society.
