Ranchi: The cash-for-vote issue that created a storm in parliament also figured in the Jharkhand assembly Friday, with a legislator demanding the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) should explain its role in the controversy.
Communist Party of India-Marxist Leninst (CPI-ML) legislator Vinod Kumar Singh raised the issue and said, “JMM MPs’ names figure in the cash-for-vote expose by a newspaper and it should make its stand clear on the issue.”
In 2008, five JMM MPs had supported the Manmohan Singh government during a trust vote on the India-US nuclear deal. Leaked US diplomatic cables allege that crores of rupees were stacked up to be paid to MPs to save the government during the vote.
“The BJP (Bharatiya Janata Party), which is raising the issue in parliament, is running its government in Jharkhand with JMM support whose MPs supported the nuclear deal by taking money as exposed the newspaper,” he said.
