UAE sends 40 tonnes of humanitarian aid to Libyan refugees

Abu Dhabi: About 40 tonnes of humanitarian aid has been provided by the United Arab Emirates to the refugees camping at the Libyan-Tunisian border.

An aircraft carrying the humanitarian aid reached Garba Airport in Tunisia Thursday.

According to UAE Relief Team leader Abdul Rehman Abdulaziz, the planeload which consisted of medicines, medical material, food and tents, was part of the airlift between the UAE and Tunisia to improve the humanitarian condition of people who were displaced by the violence in Libya to the Libyan-Tunisian border.

“The UAE humanitarian operation on the Libyan-Tunisian border town to help thousands of stranded people is being coordinated with the Tunisian Red Crescent, the Red Cross and international agencies,” he added.

He further stressed on the commitment of the UAE, under the leadership of President Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, to deliver assistance to friendly countries during crisis.
