New Delhi : There is need for greater synergy between the government and the private sector to boost India’s tourism industry, Tourism Minister Subodh Kant Sahay said Tuesday.
“Tourism is a sunrise industry and to attain the common goal of boosting growth in this industry there is a need of synergising the efforts of private sector and the government,” Sahay said at event organised by the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) here.
Aimed to bring greater synergy in the working of his ministry, Sahay announced formation of a sub-committee that will oversee coordination among different departments.
Addressing a seminar on “Indian Railways: Propelling Tourism Growth”, the minister said railway tourism was a niche area and the government would work in coordination with industry associations to boost the growth of the sector.
Rakesh Tandon, managing director of Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC), said the government plans to set up multifunctional complexes on public private partnership model to bridge the deficit of budget hotels in the country.
Tandon said railways could play an important role in promoting domestic tourism.
