Srinagar : Dozens of Congress activists staged a demonstration in this Jammu and Kashmir summer capital Wednesday against the alleged harassment of Kashmiri students in Madhya Pradesh.
The protesters raised slogans like, “Down with the MP (Madhya Pradesh) government”, “Down with RSS (Rashtriya Swayamsewak Sangh)”, “Down with BJP (Bharatiya Janata Party)”, “Stop harassing Kashmiri students”, as they burnt effigies in Press Enclave here.
“The RSS and the BJP are responsible for harassment of Kashmiri students in Madhya Pradesh. We condemn this and demand an immediate end to this,” said Rashid Chowdhary, president of the Jammu and Kashmir unit of National Students’ Union of India (NSUI).
Many Kashmiri students seeking admissions to institutions in the BJP-led Madhya Pradesh have alleged that they are being asked to furnish character certificates issued by Jammu and Kashmir Police before their applications are considered.
