New Delhi : Soon, patients suffering from high blood pressure will be able to get long-term treatment for the lifestyle-related disorder in a span of 20 minutes, experts said here Sunday.
“Cardiology is heading towards many newer innovative techniques to provide patient friendly and less invasive methods of treatment. Very soon, we will be able to provide a long-term treatment to high blood pressure in mere 20 minutes,” said Rajneesh Kapoor, director of interventional cardiology at Medanta Medicity.
“A radio frequency based catheter is advanced from the groin into the kidney arteries to deliver some lesions into the arteries. The lesions block neural signals which possibly bring down the high blood pressure,” Kapoor explained at a summit on innovations in cardiology.
The mode of treatment, yet to be approved by the Medical Council of India and the Drug Controller General of India, will cost around Rs.1 lakh.
“If further studies show this reduction to be sustained, it will be a giant leap forward in management of such patients,” Kapoor said.
