Maha SIO welcomes extension of last date for post-matric scholarship

By TCN News,

Mumbai: The Maharashtra zone of Students Islamic Organization of India (SIO) has welcomed and appreciated the decision taken by the Director of Higher Education of Maharashtra to extend the last date for submission of application for centrally sponsored post-matric scholarship till 30th September. The last date was ending on 15th September.

The announcement of the state government has come three days after SIO put the demand for extension of the last date and announced to take out statewide agitation against poor implementation of the post-matric scholarship scheme in the state.

It should be noted here that this year Central Govt. has fixed a target of 48,157 Post-matric scholarships for Maharashtra for meritorious students belonging to economically weaker sections of minority communities (Muslim, Buddhist, Christian, Sikh and Parsi) to provide them better opportunities for higher education and enhance their employability. But thanks to negligent attitude of concerned officials and irresponsibility shown by Junior/Degree/PG College principals in the state, the scheme is not achieving the target. Till now, hardly 20 thousand applications are uploaded against the target of 48,157 scholarships and that too are not scrutinized/verified by the concerned colleges.

However, the extension of the date has given opportunity for those who missed the chance earlier. The SIO urged the eligible students of minority community to get the benefit of this scheme. They can apply online for post-metric Scholarship at www.dhepune.gov.in/scholarship.

According to Malik Abdulsalam, media secretary of SIO Mumbai Division, there are many colleges which are not registered on the website of Directorate of Higher Education of Maharashtra because of that many students are facing problem. “We appeal to them to co-operate with the students so that they can get the benefit of this scheme” he said.
