Meet moots equal opportunities for Pakistani women

Islamabad : Women in Pakistan need to be provided equal job opportunities as well as gender equality at the workplace, speakers at a national conference here said.

The national conference titled “Gender Equality for Decent Employment: Enablers, Drivers and Achievers” was Monday attended by over 200 representatives, including those from government, women rights activists, civil society, academia and media, reported Dawn.

Mustafa Nawaz Khokhar, adviser to the prime minister on human rights, said the government has ensured affirmative action to provide social justice by working towards “competitiveness, productivity, growth of the economy, the creation of decent jobs and employability for all”.

Pakistan has a population of about 180 million, over half of which are women.

The convention included experience-sharing of women entrepreneurs and factory workers from across the country.
