New Delhi : Even as the capital grapples with a surge of vector borne diseases — dengue, malaria and chikungunya, the civic agency Thursday said it will upscale anti-dengue and malaria drive during the festive season.
“Four deaths have been reported due to dengue, and we are doing everything to continue the fogging drive across the city,” Municipal Corporation of Delhi’s chief medical officer V.K. Monga said.
“But the number (of cases) is low compared to last year.”
Delhi has witnessed 503 dengue, 220 malaria, 20 chikungunya and five Japanese Encephalitis cases. The symptoms include high fever, nausea, vomiting and patches on skin among others.
The civic agency is relying on government hospitals for complete information and statistics as the method of dengue testing varies and some death cases are not reported by private hospitals.
Delhi Cantonment, south Delhi, Rohini in west Delhi and New Delhi areas have reported maximum dengue cases, an MCD official said. The situation is expected to ease out later this month.
“We generally see a rise in these cases during September and October. As the temperature drops, the number reduces. There is a certain need for the public to be more involved in controlling the spread of mosquitoes,” Monga added.
