The organizations have appealed to Bhopal citizens to join the candlelight vigil tomorrow to express solidarity with those opposing the destructive project. The organizations said that the Candlelight Vigil will be held tomorrow at GTB Complex near New Market tomorrow at 6 pm.

The organizations in a Press Release stated that over half a million people are still suffering from the damages wrought by the Bhopal disaster of 1984 and the damages caused by a nuclear disaster would be many times greater and would be felt for several generations.

The five organizations namely Bhopal Gas Peedit Nirashrit Pension Bhogi Sangharsh Morcha, Bhopal Gas Peedit Mahila Stationery Karmchari Sangh, Bhopal Gas Peedit Mahila Purush Sangarsh Morcha, Bhopal Group for Information & Action and Children Against Dow Carbide said that the unsafe nature of the nuclear project at Kudankulam was evident from the government’s reluctance to make the “Safety Analysis Report” and the “Site Evaluation Report” public despite directions from the Chief Information Commissioner.

Holding her responsible for the death of one protestor and injuries suffered by many, the organizations condemned the volte face of the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister who had earlier supported the campaign against the nuclear power project. ([email protected])
