Kuwait : National Assembly Speaker Jassem Al-Kharafi said Saturday Turkey was playing an important role in the region, adding that Kuwait and Ankara should coordinate over regional issues.
Al-Kharafi, speaking to reporters after receiving Turkish Parliament speaker Koksal Toptan at the airport, said bilateral relations were “distinguished.” Lawmakers of Kuwait and turkey are keen on further developing parliamentary relations to reach the level of political ties, he said.
Turkey and Kuwait should also coordinate positions during regional and international conferences because both countries are members in the Asian, Islamic and international parliamentary unions, he said. “So we have many issues that needed mutual coordination,” he added.
Al-Kharafi said both sides would be discussing economic, investment and legislative issues.
Toptan said the visit would allow both sides exchange ideas and views over a host of issues of mutual interest.
He said they would be discussing how to develop joint investments and projects.
Toptan said his visit was irrelevant to the Turkish-Kurdish tension. The Turkish government is pursuing Kurdish separatists in southeast Turkey and in northern Iraq.
Toptan is scheduled to meet Prime Minister Sheikh Nasser Mohammad Al-Sabah and Finance Minister Mustafa Al-Shemali.
