Mother, daughter found with throats slit in Delhi home

New Delhi : A 34-year-old woman and her five-year-old daughter were found killed inside their house here Thursday afternoon, police said, adding that it seemed the assailants were known to the victim.

Yasmin and her daughter Sufia were found with their throats slit in their first floor house in west Delhi’s Vijay Vihar Sector-1 area around 2.15 p.m.

“The culprits also tried to burn Yasmin after slitting her throat. She was found in a pool of blood lying on the floor of a room while her daughter was found dead on the bed,” said a police officer.

Initial information indicated that someone known committed the crime as there was no sign of ransacking inside the house, the officer added.

Yasmin’s husband Aslam Ali, a building construction-cum-plumbing contractor, found the dead bodies in his house after neighbours informed him about smoke emanating from his house.

Aslam’s brother Shahnawaz said the main door of the house was found ajar.

“The culprits tried to burn Yasmin’s body after her murder and they also set the bed ablaze leading to smoke coming from the house,” he said.

Aslam, who married Yasmin in 1996, has been residing on the first floor of the house with his family for 25 years while there is a garage on the ground floor.

A case of murder has been registered and all the relatives and neighbours are being questioned, said the officer.
