Yangon : Security across Myanmar was beefed up after a bomb blast, the third in as many days, at a railway station here Sunday afternoon, the police said.

The blast took place in a women’s water closet at the Yangon railway station around 2 p.m. local time, police sources said, adding that a woman was injured in the explosion.

Two blasts occurred Jan 11 in the country’s new capital Nay Pyi Taw and Bago division’s Phyu township.

The first blast of Friday near the staff quarters at Pyinmana railway station in Nay Pyi Taw was said to have killed the woman bomber, who was identified later as Naw Gay Lar, 40.

In the second blast Friday evening at Nyaungpinthar village in the Phyu township, a man was killed and three other people were injured.

The dead, believed to be a suicide bomber, was identified as a member of the anti-government ethnic armed group Karen National Union (KNU).

The Myanmar government has recently issued a statement alerting people against such attacks by the rebel Karen National Union (KNU) group.
