New Delhi : British Prime Minister Gordon Brown Monday praised India’s Commerce and Industry Minister Kamal Nath for being a “best-selling author and a successful trade minister”.
After a welcoming speech by Kamal Nath at a breakfast meeting arranged by the business chambers at the Taj Mahal Hotel, Brown began his address by paying generous tributes to the minister for his steering role in the global trade talks. Brown then turned promoter for his recently launched book.
“Kamal Nath’s book was released in London. I have known him as not just a successful trade minister but now as a best-selling author,” said Brown as Nath smiled broadly.
Nath’s book, “India’s Century”, launched in New Delhi and London, provides rich anecdotes and narrative about the transformation of the mindset in India as it surges in the 21st century to become a global economic power.
Nath, who recently visited China along with Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, spoke briefly earlier about the looming fear of recession in the American economy and said the “gloom in the West can be offset by the boom in the East”.
He was referring to the growth of India and China and the gravitating of the global economic power balance towards these countries.
