Karachi : A 14-member Indian delegation Monday visited the Karachi Central Jail in search of their relatives who went missing after the 1971 Pakistan-India war.
The group is on a 14-day mission to trace prisoners of war (POWs) they believe may be languishing in Pakistani jails. The group, however, did not find any Indian POW in the Karachi jail, although it met six Indian nationals booked under the Passport Act and other laws, Online news agency reported.
The delegation, which was provided with all the records of prisoners from 1971 to date, appreciated the cooperation extended by the jail administration, Online said.
Speaking to journalists, the deputy inspector general (DIG) prisons Tariq Shah said the jail administration facilitated the delegation's visit and showed them all the relevant records.
He said that a letter received by delegation member K.B. Suri from his brother in 1975 had not been written from the Central Jail but from elsewhere in Karachi.
The group will visit Sukkur Jail on Wednesday, as also seven other Pakistani prisons before returning home.
The Indian delegation had arrived in Pakistan June 1.
