India need to win at least two matches

By IANS

Adelaide : The struggling Indian team needs to win at least two of their three remaining matches in the Commonwealth Bank triangular one-day series to have a chance of entering the best-of-three finals next month.

Currently placed second behind Australia, India have lost their last two matches and play Sri Lanka here Tuesday.

Australia are clear leaders with 17 points, including three bonus points, from five matches.

Sri Lanka are lying third with six points from four matches. Their points tally is the lowest but they have played one match less than India and Australia.

Each win fetches four points while a draw or an abandoned tie means two points for both teams. There are also bonus points available.

Each team plays the other four times in the league before the finals, to be played March 2, 4 and 7.

Points table:

Team M W L T NR P NRR

Australia 5 3 1 0 1 17 +1.135
India 5 1 2 0 2 8 -0.348
Sri Lanka 4 1 2 0 1 6 -1.507

Read as: M= matches, W= won, L= lost, T= tied, NR= no result, NRR= net run rate
