Chinese steel maker keen to build plant in Jharkhand

Ranchi : China’s Sinosteel Corp has surveyed land in Jharkhand to set up a greenfield steel plant.

“We have identified three spots. Acquiring land is our first priority as land acquisition is a major problem here,” said Satyajit Singh, general manager of Sinosteel and who is based at New Delhi.

Singh is here to participate in a seminar organised by the Federation of Indian Mineral Industries on ways to utilise low-grade iron ore by using latest technology.

“Initially, we will start work on 1.5 million tonne steel plant, which will be expanded to up to 5 million tonnes,” he said.
