Kabul : Two Taliban commanders and a NATO soldier were killed in two separate incidents while seven suspected militants were detained in the volatile southern Afghanistan, a NATO spokesman said here on Thursday.
The operation was conducted in the province of Helmand, said spokesman Brig. Gen. Carlos Branco. He said the Taliban network had suffered another set back as a result of this operation.
The two slain Taliban commanders have been identified as Mullah Abdul Matin and Mullah Karim Agha, said the spokesman, who added that they were involved in suicide bombings on local and foreign troops in the province.
Seven more suspected militants were arrested Kandahar, the province which was scene to three suicide bombings, two of them the worst-ever that claimed more than 100 lives this week.
Officials in the province said the suspects were arrested in separate operations launched soon after the deadly suicide attacks in separate areas of the province.
Separately, a roadside bomb explosion have killed a NATO soldier and wounded another in the same province, said a statement released here on Thursday.
The statement did not reveal names of the soldier killed and injured in the blast, majority of foreign troops stationed in Helmand province are British.
