Munawwar Husain elected MECAPS president

Bhopal: Bhopal-based Muslim Education and Career Promotion Society, (MECAPS), an NGO working in the field of education for more than last two decades for the upliftment of Muslim students, has unanimously elected Munawwar Husain as its president for 2008-2011.

Munawwar is a known figure in the educational circles of Bhopal. He served as the staff of MVM Bhopal, government colleges of Sehore and Jabalpur. He later shifted to Nigeria and served as the staff of various educational institutions’ Mathematics Department.

Keeping in view their keen interest and involvement in MECAPS programmes the general body decided to request a number of well-known personalities to cooperate it as patrons of the society. They are Justice Faizanuddin (retd), Ishtiaq Arif, Raees Ahmed and Shafeeq Hasan Khan and Ms. Sonia Rasheed.

While Justice Faizanuddin is a retired Supreme Court judge and former Lokayukt of Madhya Pradesh, Ishtiaq Arif is a noted Urdu journalist and one of the founders of MECAPS and its outgoing president, Raees Ahmed a known figure in the field of social work and Shafeeq Hasan Khan is an expert on educational problems. He has recently retired from NCERT. Mrs. Sonia Rasheed is the former vice president of MECAPS.

In its annual general body meeting held the other day MECAPS also elected other office-bearers unanimously. They are as follows:

Dr. Iftekharuddin – vice president, Sagheer Baidaar – secretary; Qazi Iqbal – treasurer; Pervez Bari – Jt. secretary; Zafar Hasan (Dr. Khalid) – Jt. Secretary while Syed Masood Ali, Prof. Hasan Masood, Prof. Zaki-ur-Rahman, Ahmed Mustafa Siddiqui, Inayat Husain, Samiullah Khan Lodhi and Shakeel Ahmed as executive members. ([email protected])
