US Fails to Meet Promises to New Orleans

By Prensa Latina

Washington : One year past the promises to transform New Orleans, the city devastated by Hurricane Katrina remains in rubbles and neglected.

The New York Times reminds the March 2007 release of plans to re-build the southern city with tens of parks, boulevards, playgrounds and recovered infrastructure.

Then they promised to fill the city with cranes but nothing has reached the areas devastated in August 2005 along 1,800 dead, 700 missing and hundreds of thousands homeless.

Official Edward Blakely said he understands the people’ frustration, which he blamed to red-tape and corruption, while human rights organizations and the victims blame President George W. Bush poor efforts to deal with the tragedy.

The Washington Post said late in February that Bush failed before and after the hurricane.
