The cabinet in a statement said that Siniora’s appeal to the commander of international peacekeeping forces came after UNIFIL authorities informed the Lebanese Army Command of Israel’s intention to carry out comprehensive military exercises, unprecedented in terms of their nature and extent, on the sixth day of this month.

Siniora also called on the international peacekeeping forces to “ensure that Israel does not take any action that leads to friction, or any breach of the resolution No. 1701 of the UN Security Council.” He stressed the need to adopt the utmost caution and alertness and to take all necessary measures to maintain the safety of innocent Lebanese citizens and to respond to any breach that Israel might resort to.
