Hinmanshu, Satyapragyan win Subroto Mukherjee Chess fourth round

New Delhi : International masters Himanshu Sharma and Satyapragyan defeated Jharkhand’s Puneet Jaiswal and talented youngster V.A.V. Rajesh of Andhra Pradesh respectively in the fourth round of the second Subroto Mukerjee Memorial All India Open International Rating Chess Tournament here Sunday.

There were no major upsets in the fourth round as all the top four boards came out unscratched.

The other top players who registered victory in the fourth round were International Master Saptarshi Roy of West Bengal and Karnataka’s B.S. Shivananda. They defeated Gurpreet Pal Singh of Delhi and Maharshtra’s Chinmay Kulkarni respectively.

Earlier in the third round, J. Venkata Ramana of Andhra Pradesh registered the major upset of the tournament, defeating top seed and local favourite International Master Sriram Jha, while defending champion Rahul Shetty of Air India narrowly escaped with a draw against unheralded Rajesh Upadhyay of Indian Air Force.
