NC betrayed people for lust of power

Mufti for institutional arrangement to remove regional disparities

Mahore : Reiterating his party’s commitment to remove regional disparities, former Chief Minister and patron of the Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) Mufti Mohammad Sayeed today stressed on the need of making institutional arrangement to create equal opportunities of development and upliftment for all regions and sub-regions of the State.

Addressing an impressive public meeting at Mahore town of Reasi district, Mufti Mohammad Sayeed said that his party was committed for strengthening unity among all the regions of the State but there should be no regional disparity. “After formation of coalition regime in 2002 many steps were taken to remove regional imbalances”, he said but hastened to add that lot more needed to be done to remove backwardness of some sub-regions within the regions.

“I am in favour of making an institutional arrangement wherein there is a constitutional guarantee of fair deal with all regions and sub-regions”, he advocated and added that devolution of powers was must for equitable development of all the regions. He was of the opinion that decentralization of power would encourage peoples’ participation in the governance and other developmental activities.

“Since its formation PDP has been advocating devolution of powers to empower the common masses and ensure their participation in the democratic institutions”, he said, adding, “Creating an atmosphere of peace and harmony in the State where people live with honour and dignity is the main agenda of PDP”.

Quoting recently released book of former Deputy Prime Minister, Lal Krishan Advani titled “My Country My Life” , PDP patron said that his book has exposed how National Conference had betrayed people of Jammu and Kashmir for the lust of power. “We are not for getting power by sacrificing wishes and aspirations of the people of Jammu and Kashmir”, he asserted and made it clear that PDP was committed to restore peace in the State with dignity and honour of the common masses. “PDP through its policies and programmes convinced both India and Pakistan to take Confidence Building Measures (CBMs) and accelerate peace process in the sub-continent”, he said.

Pointing towards problems being faced by the inhabitants of Mahore, Gulabgarh and adjoining localities, Mufti Sayeed assured the people that he will personally intervene to ensure release of adequate funds for completion of Tulibana-Narloo and Angrala-Ghulabgarh roads in time.

Responding to the demand of Degree College at Mahore, PDP supported people demand and said that this tehsil headquarter is an ideal place for Degree College. He, however, assured the people that college would be opened at Mahore.

Speaking on the occasion, Minister of Agriculture, Abdul Aziz Zargar urged the people to strengthen hands of Mufti Mohammed Sayeed, who has been working over time to restore peace in this region. “Development is impossible without peace and stability”, he said and added that for restoring lasting peace strengthening of PDP was must in the State.

Mr Zargar, while urging the people to ensure victory of PDP candidates in the coming assembly elections, assured that all problems of the inhabitants Mahore would be solved.

Senior PDP leader Master Tassadiq Hussain, Noor-ul-Hassan, Mumtaz Kousar, Bansi Lal, Mohammed Ayub, Pritam Singh, Partap Sharma, Mohammed Yaseen Shan, Mohammed Ramzan, Kamal Din, Mushtaq Ahmed Malik, Choudhary Mohammed Aslam, Shabir Ahmed and others addressed the gathering.
