Khaliq’s endless wait for disappeared son

‘My last wish is to see grave or the jail of my son’

Pattan,(Baramulla), Kashmir: Collapsed with fatigue, 75 years old Abdul Khaliq Mir and his wife Sundri’s last wish is to have a glimpse of their son Ghulam Mohammed Mir resident of Kalsari Pattan who according to them was picked up by troopers, eight years ago and got disappeared in army custody and his whereabouts remained untraced till now.

Recalling the fateful day, Abdul Khaliq Mir told News Agency of Kashmir that his son Ghulam Mohmmed Mir was picked up by troops on 15 October 2000 when he was driving his car, soon after a mine blast took place on roadside.

“After the blast, troops Pattan army camp swoop upon the people on road and picked up my son with other people, while other people were released my son never returned despite our search in all army and police camps,” said Khaliq while tears rolled down on this straggly beard.

“My son was picked up by troops of Pattan army lead by Captain G S Sandial and got disappeared in army custody,” added he.

Khaliq Mir said that I was told by one of my relative that my son Ghulam Mohmmed was picked up by troops along others people on the road including the relative but all of them were later released expect Ghulam Mohmmed.

“We also lodged also lodged FIR in police station Pattan and after one and a half month police recovered his taxi at TCP Hyderbeigh, but Muhammad did not return.

Wailing Sundari mother of Ghulam Mohmmed said, “We knocked every door of justice and even Home department but of no use”.

According to them, they had protested in Delhi before Gandhi Wahden and even Nirmala Desh Pandey had also joined the protest but despite repeated assurances nothing happened.

The have also filed petition in the Jammu and Kashmir High court and human rights commission.

“Human rights have given judgment in our favour and asked state government for granting ex-gratia relief but the judgment was not entertained by concern authorities and the file is eating dust at DC office Baramulla,” allege Mir.

Mir reaffirms that that he will fight legally till his last breath as according to him his son was innocent and pious having no involvement in any militancy related activities.

“I want to know whether my son was dead or alive, if my son is alive provide me his whereabouts and if he is dead show me his grave, cries Mir as his wife Sundri broke down.
