Beijing : The number of victims of an earthquake that shook Sichuan province in China last Monday is almost at 15,000, authorized sources reported on Monday.
These sources, mentioned by Xinhua agency, reported that at 14:00 local hour the death toll was at 14,866 in Sichaun, 280 in Gansu, 106 in Shaanxi, 14 in Chongqing and 3 in other regions.
Two days after the powerful earthquake the first-aid post in charged of coordinating rescue operations in the affected areas has not yet determined human losses because of the great amount of corpses under rubble.
Army troops have recently reached an isolated town inside Wenchuan district which was the epicenter of this telluric phenomenon of 7.8 on the Richter scale.
It has been the most devastating quake the Asian nation suffered since 1976 in which another big earthquake completely destroyed Tangshan city, killing over 25,000 people.
Soldiers have evaluated the situation in the mountains, only accesible by foot because roads are blocked and bridges have collapsed.
The number of victims is preducted to rise.
