Delhi humid after showers, more rains in north-east

New Delhi : The weather Sunday in the capital remained hot and humid after Saturday’s late evening thunderstorm.

Though Sunday the sky remained mostly cloudy, the air was laden with dust and charged with prickly heat. As a result, few Delhiites moved out to enjoy their holiday.

Sunday’s maximum temperature in Delhi was three degrees below normal at 37.6 degrees Celsius, while the minimum was 24.7 degrees.

The weather remained somewhat pleasant in most parts of the country, as rains and thundershowers brifly brought the summer heat down.

The weatherman has forecast same weather condition in the north-east and south India until Wednesday.

Rains and thundershowers were forecast in the north-eastern states, West Bengal and southern states of Tamil Nadu, Kerala and south interior Karnataka.

The Andaman and Nicobar Islands and the Lakshadweep Islands will receive thundershowers until Wednesday, the weather office said.

Sunday’s highest maximum temperature in the country at 45.9 degrees Celsius was recorded in Kakinada in Andhra Pradesh.

In western India, the weather will remain dry. Dust-storms are forecast in many places in Rajasthan.

In the northwest, Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand will receive rains and thundershowers Monday, according to weather forecast.

Eastern Uttar Pradesh and Bihar will also have similar weather.

However, central India will remain mostly dry, though at some places isolated thundershowers are expected. Chhattisgarh will receive isolated rains and thundershowers.

The indo-Gangetic plains and the north-eastern states will receive fairly widespread rainfall and there may be further drop in the temperatures in the region, the weatherman has forecast.
