Chandigarh/Noida : The weekend surely was not a good day for police investigators in Chandigarh and Noida, Delhi’s suburban own in Uttar Pradesh. The two police forces blamed two killings in their areas on the ‘missing’ servants, only to discover to their chagrin later that the suspects were themselves murdered.
In Chandigarh, when a property dealer’s wife was found murdered late Saturday, the police immediately suspected the missing domestic help, Vijay Kumar alias Nikku, to be behind the crime.
The victim, Anuradha, 33, was found murdered in her Sector 38-west home while her husband Baljinder Singh, now being questioned by the police, was partying at a local discotheque.
A few hours after the police launched a hunt to nab Nikku, his body was found near Ropar town, 40 km from Chandigarh.
“We were earlier looking for Nikku but were later informed by the Punjab police that his body was found near Ropar,” station house officer (SHO) Rajesh Shukla said.
Hours earlier on Friday, an almost identical incident was played out in Noida, on the outskirts of the national capital, where a teenaged schoolgirl’s murder in her bedroom was promptly blamed on the missing domestic help.
The Noida police, investigating the murder of the schoolgirl, Aarushi Talwar, had to face embarrassment when the body of the main suspect – domestic help Hemraj – was found Saturday on the terrace of the Talwars’ flat.
Aarushi, 15, a Class 9 student of the Delhi Public School in Noida, was found murdered in her bedroom at her L-32 Jal Vayu Vihar home in Sector-25.
The teenager, the only daughter of a dentist couple, had dinner with her family Thursday night and then retired to her room in the three-bedroom apartment.
At 6 a.m. Friday, her father Rajesh Talwar woke up to open the door to a part-time domestic help and peeped into Aarushi’s room. To his horror, he found his daughter lying dead in a pool of blood. Her throat was slit and there were stab wounds on her forehead, shoulder and chest.
Hemraj was earlier suspected to be the teenager’s killer and police teams were fanned out to search for him.
Hemraj’s body was discovered by retired police officer K.K. Gautam when he asked the police to break the lock of the terrace door after noticing bloodstains on the stairs. The body was found in a partially decomposed state.
Assistant Director General of Uttar Pradesh Police Brij Lal has now announced that the state’s Special Task Force (STF) would probe the Noida double murder.
