Islamabad : Pakistan and Afghanistan agreed to introduce Biometric Control System along their borders to check the illegal cross-border movement.
The two sides agreed on the system during the visit to Kabul by A. Rehman Malik, Advisor to the Prime Minister on Interior.
Malik met Afghan President Hamid Karzai and Afghan Interior Minister Zarar Ahmad Muqbal, an Interior Ministry statement said.
“The Advisor discussed the security situation on the International Border of the two countries.
To improve the security situation, restoration/installation of Boarder Biometric Control System was emphasized,” it said.
The two sides agreed to task the technical teams on both sides to meet security and finalize the installation.
“President Hamid Karzai agreed to the proposal of its installation on both sides,” the statement said.
The Advisor also explained the deployment of Pakistan’s security forces on the border and also raised the issue of repatriation of Afghan Refugees.
Other issues of mutual interest were also discussed and both sides agreed to extend full support to each other to improve security environment and bring peace in the region, the statement said.
Both sides agreed to appoint focal persons, Additional Secretary Ministry of Interior Islamic Republic of Pakistan and Deputy Minister Islamic Republic of Afghanistan for prompt communication and resolution of security issues.
The meetings were held in an extremely cordial atmosphere and the Advisor conveyed best wishes of Prime Minister of Islamic Republic of Pakistan and Co-chairperson of Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Mr. Asif Ali Zardari.
