Islamabad : At least four policemen have been killed and two others injured in attack on their van in Pakistan’s northwest, a senior police officer said Monday.
The police mobile came under attack at the outskirts of Peshawar, the capital of North West Frontier Province, during routine patrolling late last night, police officer Aziz-ur-Rehman said.
No group claimed responsibility for the attack.
Authorities blame such attacks on suspected militants, who are active in parts of northwest.
Police are regularly targeted in the area and the last night attack on police mobile was the second near Peshawar in less than a month.
The police officer said that unidentified gunmen opened fire on the mobile van at the Matani neighborhood, killing four policemen at the scene and injuring two others.
A Station House Officer Gulab Khan was among the injured, who is under treatment in an hospital.
