New Delhi : Several companies have shown interest to set up city gas distribution (CGD) networks in 61 Indian cities, Petroleum and Natural Gas Minister Murli Deora said Tuesday.
While inaugurating the new premises of Petroleum and Natural Gas Regulatory Board (PNGRB) here, the minister said companies will be selected soon through “transparent” selection methods to build and operate the gas distribution network.
He added that with the country’s gas reserves rising after the discovery of new fields in the Krishna-Godavari basin, gas pipeline networks will spread throughout the nation.
Deora said the regulatory board was in the process of approving regulations on access code, affiliate code and technical specifications of CGD networks.
“I am sure that the regulations will facilitate an orderly growth of CGD networks in the country. They will play a crucial role in increasing the competition in the natural gas marketing and ensure the adoption of uniform safety standards throughout the country,” he said.
PNGRB chairperson L. Mansingh said ever since the constitution of the board in October 2007, it has notified four regulations related to the development of city gas networks.
