Aaghaz Foundation of India calls for applications for Rohith Vemula Scholarship

By TCN News

Lucknow based Charity organisation Aaghaz Foundation is inviting applications for its second annual Rohith Vemula Memorial Scholarship.

Constituted in memory of deceased Hyderabad Central University student Rohith Vemula, the Rs 50,000 scholarship will be given exclusively towards hostel fee and can be availed by any underprivileged student from SC/ST or minority community, the Foundation’s Executive Council announced on Friday.

The first Rohith Vemula Scholarship was awarded in February 2016 to Dalit student Chandan Kumar Ram from Auraiya district in Bihar. Chandan, who is pursuing law, comes from the lowest rung of society and had been living in a shelter as he was unable to afford to pay the hostel fees. His parents work as labourers in Gram Karahwari and he takes tuition classes to sustain himself.

Students desirous to avail the 2017 scholarship may write to [email protected] with their full details.
