New Delhi:Aaghaz Foundation, an organisation that has been working towards reducing drop-out rate among minorities has announced the winner of ‘Rohith Vemula Memorial Scholarship’ as a Dalit student from Auraiya district in Uttar Pradesh.
Aaghaz Foundation received several applications for scholarships after January 21 when it’s executive council had announced an annual scholarship of Rs 50,000 in the memory of deceased Hyderabad student Rohith Vemula.

After careful consideration of all the received applications, it was decided to award Rs 40,000 to Dalit student Chandan Kumar Ram from district Auraiya, Uttar Pradesh.
Ram who is pursuing law and has also done an ITI diploma, comes from the most lower rung of society and has been living in a shelter as he cannot afford to pay the hostel fees. His parents work as labourers in gram Karahwari and he takes tuition classes to sustain himself.
Ram is a meritorious student and done exceptionally well academically. His dream is to empower Dalits and other downtrodden members of his community.
After declaring winner, Aaghaz Foundation wished him all the best in his future endeavors.
The balance of Rs 10,000 will be given later this year to another underprivileged SC/ST minority student.
