India win second Test by seven wickets, lead series 1-0

Nottingham : Left-arm pacer Zaheer Khan snared nine wickets as India defeated England by seven wickets in the second Test here Tuesday to take a 1-0 lead in the three-match Pataudi Trophy series.

Chasing 73 for victory, India reached the target losing three wickets on a sunny day at Trent Bridge.

Captain Rahul Dravid (11) and Sourav Ganguly (2) remained unbeaten as India reached 73 for three wickets to seal the win.

Zaheer Khan, whose match-haul of nine wickets, five of them in the second innings, laid the foundation for the victory, was expectedly adjudged the Man of the Match.

India, overnight 10 for no loss, lost all three wickets to pacer Chris Tremlett this morning.

Openers Wasim Jaffer and Dinesh Karthik made 22 each while Sachin Tendulkar, who scored a fine 91 in the first innings, managed a solitary run.

The lone centurion of the match, England captain Michael Vaughan, finished on the losing side.

The first Test at Lord's was drawn.
