Patna : The police in Bihar have lodge a case of dowry against noted beautician Shahnaz Hussain following a complaint by her daughter-in-law Rabiya Hussain.
“A dowry torture case was lodged against Shahnaz Hussain on April 24 on court’s order,” Mundirika Singh, officer-in-charge of Gandhi Maidan police station here told IANS over telephone Saturday.
“We have started investigation into the case. But we cannot disclose anything now,” Singh said.
Rabiya is the wife of Shahnaz’s only son Sameer Hussain, who died under mysterious circumstances earlier this year. When contacted by IANS, Rubiya confirmed that the police has lodged a dowry torture case against her mother-in-law.
“I had filed a 40-page complaint petition in the chief judicial magistrate’s court in Patna, in which I had attached relevant documents and evidences in support of my petition. I had requested the court to direct police to lodge a case against Shahnaz,” Rabia said.
“Shahnaz started torturing me soon after my marriage with Sameer. She used to torture me mentally and physically. When I was pregnant, she forced me to return to my parents’ house,” she said.
Rubiya in her petition has also alleged that her mother-in-law was responsible for Sameer’s death.
“I have said time and again, and stated in petition also, that my mother-in-law was directly responsibly for my husband’s death. Sameer committed suicide as he was in acute depression because of Shahnaz’s lifestyle and behaviour towards him,” Rabiya said.
“Sameer was unhappy over Shahnaz’s second marriage and her handing over the business to his sister and her sons instead of him,” she said.
Last month, the Bihar government recommended a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe into Sameer’s death. He died Jan 6 after falling from the balcony of a third-floor flat owned by his father-in-law Mahfooz Ahmed at Maqbool Apartments on Exhibition Road.
Earlier, Shahnaz had said that Sameer was neither depressed nor an alcoholic, as claimed by Rubiya and her family. She also denied that her son was angry following her second marriage to noted entrepreneur R.K. Puri.
