Kathmandu : The four main Nepalese parties demanded the executive to extend the creation of a national consensus government for three more days, aimed at defining negotiations.
The Maoist Communist Party (CPN-M), the Nepali Congress (NC) and Marxist Leninist Unified Communist Party (CPN-UML) have held a crucial meeting Tuesday in which they analyzed the Maoist consensus proposal.
The NC spokesman Arjun Narsingh Kharri Chhetri stated that in Monday’s night previous meeting the four parties agreed to form a coalition administration led by Maoists.
But the ex rebels proposition was rejected and then the parts agreed to create a commission in charge of drawing up a common program in three days for a government of national unity.
A week ago, president Ram Baran Yadav gave the CPN-M seven days time to form a new government under his leadership and since then, intense negotiations have taken place between the different political forces.
Last moment reports say that Girija Prasad Koirala, president of the NC, summoned a new meeting for tonight among the leaders of the other three parties.
After his polemic trip to Sri Lanka to represent Nepal at the SAARC Summit, when he had already resigned as acting Prime Minister, Koirala passed by New Delhi where he met with that country´s leading politicians.
Political analysts in Nepal feel that Koirala, despite his 83 years of age and feeble health, may attempt to form a government under his leadership, as he feels supported by India.
Even though Koirala may not achieve this, maoists will find it very difficult to create a minority or majority government, as they said, without the support of the NC in particular and the backing of the MPRF and the CPN-UML, unless the latter allies up with them to create a communist government.
