Another two soldiers were wounded when an army vehicle was stuck by a roadside bomb explosion in the Sangin district of southern Helmand province Friday, the defence ministry said in a statement.

The wounded soldiers were evacuated to a nearby hospital, where they were reported to be in stable condition, the statement said.

Meanwhile, Afghan police and coalition forces arrested three men suspected of facilitating homemade bomb attacks in Bermal district of Paktika province, near border with Pakistan, the US military said in a statement.

The police also discovered three explosive device used for roadside attacks in the Shiken district of the same province on a frequently travelled road, the statement said.

Taliban militants, whose regime was toppled by a US-led invasion in late 2001, have waged a bloody insurgency against Afghan and international forces.

The insurgents have recently heavily relied on suicide and roadside attacks, tactics that are widely believed to have been copied from Iraqi insurgents.
