Islamabad : Voting for the provincial and national assemblies seats has closed and counting has begun in Pakistan. Initial reports received from several presiding officers of polling stations showed candidates of Pakistan Muslim League (PML-N), led by former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, and Benazir Bhuttos Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP), securing more votes than pro-Musharraf Pakistan Muslim League (PML-Q).
The voting was relatively calm across the country but minor bomb and hand grenade explosions were reported in Southwestern Baluchistan province and northern areas including Sawat valley.
