Islamabad : An officer of the American embassy in Islamabad was found dead at his residence on Monday, a police investigator said.
Mr. Keith Ryan, 36, was hit by a bullet at his head and was found dead at his residence in F-7 sector of the capital, Abdul Qadir, investigation officer of the local police station said.
An American embassy confirmed Keith Ryan’s death and said, “There will be a full investigation”.
“However, there does not appear to have been any foul play,” the statement said.
The police officer said that a medical report would make clear circumstances of the death.
Abdul Qadir said that Keith Ryan belongs to the American security section in the embassy.
He said that the officer was living alone at the house and he did not go to work today and when the Embassy officials checked his house they found the body.
“The embassy informed the police and we are investigating the incident,” the investigator said.
“Our esteemed colleague, the U.S. Embassy Officer, Mr. Keith Ryan passed away this morning in Islamabad.
We have been informed that the next of kin have been notified. We extend our heartfelt sympathy to all his family,” the embassy statement said.
“Mr. Ryan was a well respected, trusted, and longtime member of the U.S. Mission in Pakistan,” it said.
“His death is a great loss. He will be surely missed by all who have known and worked with him here in Pakistan”.
“There will be a full investigation; however, there does not appear to have been any foul play,” the statement said.
Local TV channels reported that the American officer may have committed suicide by shooting himself.
