Jammu : A delegation of representatives of various Muslim localities today called upon Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Police A Q Manhas and apprised him of prevailing tense situation in Jammu city and its outskirts.
Led by Ashiq Hussain Khan and Liyaqat Ali Shah, the members apprised that Muslims of Jammu region have always extended their full support in shutdown and Muslims were of the opinion that governor should invite the representatives of the Sangarsh Samiti for dialogue so that the issues including land allotment could be redressed, but apprehended that some anti-social elements for their vested interests are trying to divide Jammu on communal lines and they have started raising demands like people who live in Bathandi should vacate.
“We will not support such demands which are purely political such as asking people to vacate the Bathandi or defaming the Muslims every where on channels such anti-social elements would not be tolerated,” they maintained, adding that compensation should be given to the members of Muslim community particularly the meat shop owner whose shop was looted at Subash Nagar for no fault and whose houses and assets have been damaged by miscreants in other areas.
They further demanded that proper security arrangements should be put in place at Gujjar Nagar, Talab Khatikhan, Bhathindi, Subash Nagar, Ustad Mohalla, Janipora, Chinore, Bantalab, Talab Tillo and other Muslim majority areas to prevent any untoward incident.
The members also expressed concern over the alleged failure of district administration in controlling the situation and alleged attempt to cremate the body of Kuldeep Raj Dogra who allegedly committed suicide by the police. They demanded that proper enquiry should be conducted in the cremation incident to bring out facts before public as every religion has its own sanctity and one should respect each others religion.
They also demanded that the representatives of Muslim communities from different parts of Jammu region should be invited in the police-public meetings.
Meanwhile, DIG A Q Manhas assured the delegation that necessary steps would be taken and demands including participation of representatives in the meetings would be looked into.
The decision to meet was taken in a general body meeting which was attended by representatives of all Muslim areas.
Others who accompany the delegation include Rayees Ahmad Malik, Moulana Mohammad Shafi from Subash Nagar, Mohd Amin Malik, Shafqat Hussian Bhat, Bashir Ahmad Malik, Rashid Malik, Mohd Amin, Nazir Ahmad, and Rehmat Ali from Nagrota.
