Greece Nixes Atlanta Decision on the Five

By Prensa Latina,

Athens : Thousands of Greek young people and workers condemned the recent decision taken by Atlanta’s Court of Appeals against the antiterrorists Cuban Five imprisoned in US, local media reports Wednesday.

The demonstrators, gathered at US embassy in Athens, expressed their solidarity to the people of Cuba and their indignation before the decision issued by that hearing on June 4.

Vasilis Dimopoulos, member of the Bureau of the Organization of Athens of Communist Party (KKE), described as unacceptable the decision of the judges on the appeal of the defense to prove the lack of evidences in the charges attributed to the five Cubans.

Dimopoulos also requested the government of his country to pronounce on the matter and not to continue hiding behind the common approach of the European Union on the case.

During the act, several speakers demanded that Geraldo Hernandez, Ramon Labanino, Antonio Guerrero, Fernando Gonzalez and Rene Gonzalez be released immediately.

On the other hand, Kostas Toumasatos, Secretary General of Greco-Cuban Association of Friendship and Solidarity, read a resolution of that organization in which it condemns the decision of Atlanta’s Court of Appeals.

It also denounces the violations of the elementary rights of the Cuban antiterrorist, who are not allowed to have visits from their relatives in Cuba.
