A report from the General Accounting Office (GAO) says one in every ten soldier had health conditions that limited combat readiness.

The command at Ft. Stewart, Ft. Benning and Ft. Drum were forced to act like that under government pressures to meet combat demands, assured the GAO. In some cases, medical records and charts were lost or their condition was treated randomly.

The GAO report coincides with an announcement by the Department of Defense of 16 new medical requirements to send troops to war zones.

USA Today rated in May in some 43,000 the US soldiers with health problems sent to Iraq and Afghanistan since 2003.
