New Delhi : The main arteries of India’s Kolkata city became human rivers with a multitudinous march against US policies and for peace, organized by the Left Front, The Hindu daily highlights Tuesday.

The massive demonstration on Monday, to which several ministers of the leftist government in Bengala state joined, condemned the threats posed by Washington’s maneuvers against the sovereignty of the Indian foreign policy.

“We have to strengthen unity in front of the US, which tries to impose its plans in our country,” warned Biman Bose, secretary of the Communist Party of India-Marxist’s (CPI-M) Committee in Bengala.

The dozens of thousands of protesters also denounced the anti-popular policies by the Indian government of the United Progressive Alliance (UPA), which have led to rise in prices and inflation.

Locals from all social strata, including sports organizations, took part in the demonstration, the communist leader indicated.

A similar but smaller event was organized in Siliguri, in northern Bengala.
