Worker buried alive at Formula-1 racing track worksite

By IANS,

Noida : A construction worker was buried alive Friday when a big pile of mud fell on him at the site of Formula-1 racing track in Greater Noida, police said.

According to Lakshman Verma, Dankaur police station officer, about nine people were working in the basement of the under-construction media centre at the side when the accident occurred.

Dhannu was standing in one corner when mud from a trolley carrying the excavated earth fell on him, burying him. Other labourers dug him out and called up a hospital for an ambulance to be sent to the site. The ambulance, however, took long to reach the site and Dhannu died.

When the ambulance reached the spot, angry workers pelted stones at it and set it on fire.

Meanwhile, contractor Ajeet Jha announced a compensation of Rs.8 lakh to Dhannu’s family.

Dhannu, 45, hailed from Kota district of Madhya Pradesh. Two of his four sons, Naveen and Bittu, were also working on the site when the accident happened, police said.

A case was yet to be registered. The body was sent for post-mortem examination.
