The meeting was participated by enthusiastic youths including students of Jamia Millia Islamia, civil rights activists and religious leaders.

Asad Ashraf, a student leader passionately talked about the human rights violation perpetrated by the Indian state on day to day basis, “be it malnutrition and denial of rights to the dispossessed or the cold blooded murder of innocent youths at Batla House on the name of encounter.”

Other speakers including Fateh Mohammad Nadwee, Neeraj, Danish and Akram Akhtar talked about larger human rights violation of more than fifty percent of the population on the name of industrialization and development.

What is the awareness about human rights among the common masses can be understood from the fact that when this correspondent talked to Md. Ashfaque Alam, a vegetable seller next to the venue of the public meeting, he said that some thing related to Muharram was going on in the meeting.

The above mentioned episode highlights all the more need to create awareness that there is a thing called human rights ensured by the Constitution of India and various UN Conventions.

The meeting was jointly organized by National Alliance for People’s Movement (NAPM), Asha Pariwar, Yuva Koshish, N.S.A.F. and Lohiya Vichar Manch.
