New Delhi: Indicative of his growing role in the party affairs, Congress general secretary Rahul Gandhi Thursday had an “informal meeting” with party legislators and MPs from Delhi.
The hour-long meeting that began around 4 p.m. was held at the Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee (DPCC) office.
“Rahulji was invited over a cup of tea by us. It was an informal get together where party MLAs, MPs, block and district presidents were present,” said DPCC president Jai Prakash Agarwal.
Union Minister Kapil Sibal, who represents Chandni Chowk, and Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit were also present at the meeting.
Agarwal said Gandhi did not address the gathering but interacted with partymen.
Congress leaders have over the past few weeks spoken about the desire of partymen for Gandhi getting a bigger role in the party. There has been speculation that Gandhi, who is at present in charge of Youth Congress and the National Students Union of India, would be appointed working president of the party.
