Bhopal: Stressing that there was no immediate plan to hike passenger fares, Railway Minister Dinesh Trivedi Thursday said any increase will take place in a “democratic way” after discussions with parliament members and media editors.
“There is no plan of immediate hike in passenger fares but we have prepared a fare chart and it can be implemented after discussions in democratic way with parliamentarians and media persons, like editors,” Trivedi told reporters here.
Trivedi, who was on a one-day visit here to discuss railway projects and connected activities, met Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan and MPs from the state.
Chouhan appealed to Trivedi to exempt those states including Madhya Pradesh, which have less rail line density than the national average, from the condition of giving 50 percent amount for new lines on priority.
He also sought cooperation in the Rs.1,000 crore proposal chalked out by Madhya Pradesh Road Development Corporation for constructing 46 railway over-bridges under PPP (Public Private Partnership) mode.
MPs from the state also put issues related to their constituency before the railway minister.
