The train derailed when explosives planted on the track exploded in Bahawalpur city of Punjab province, the report said, adding that one woman and three children were among the six killed. The injured were shifted to hospital.

There was no immediate claim of responsibility for the blast.

Meanwhile, all 36 airports in Pakistan were put on a state of “red alert” following an anonymous call that a suicide bomber might target the capital’s Benazir Bhutto Shaheed International Airport.

In the southern port city of Karachi, two terrorists blew themselves up when police raided their hideout Friday.

Police said the two terrorists were preparing for suicide attacks during the Eid festival and added that a possible carnage had been averted.

On a tipoff, the police raided a house in the Baldia town area where Islamic militants from the banned Lashkare Jhangvi group holed up in the western part of the city, mostly inhabited by Pukhtoon labourers from the restive North West Frontier Province.

The rebels opened fire at the law enforcers with assault rifles and hurled five hand grenades, spreading terror in the city’s congested area.

After running out of ammunition, they blew themselves up.
