Pakistan to request Holbrooke to include Kashmir in his agenda

ISLAMABAD : Pakistan is likely to urge the newly-appointed special envoy of President Barack Obama to the region to also make longstanding Kashmir dispute with archrival India part of his agenda when he visits the country.

Richard Holbrooke, the special envoy of President Obama to Pakistan-Afghanistan, will arrive here on Monday on a two-day visit, diplomatic sources told KUNA.

During his stay, Holbrooke will be holding meetings with Prime Minster Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani, President Asif Ali Zardari, Foreign Minister Shah Mehmoud Qureshi, said sources. They said he is likely to meet with the military chief as well however, the meeting has not been confirmed yet.

Islamabad has been perturbed since Washington has clarified that Kashmir is not part of Holbrookes mandate in the region.

Sources said that Islamabad will be urging Holbrooke to also make Kashmir territorial dispute part of his agenda as the unresolved Kashmir issue is the cause of regional instability.
With rising insurgency, recently stress has been emphasized more the resolution of Kashmir dispute. The UN Secretary General, Ban Ki-Moon, during his recent visit also urged on the need to resolve the issue that has been cause of three of the four wars between Pakistan and India.
To a question in this regard, Prime Minister Gilani talking to newsmen in Multan on Sunday said that the Kashmir issue will be discussed with Holbrooke on Monday and then Pakistan will be in a position to give any statement.

Beside Kashmir, sources said further, Pakistan will also be sharing Mumbai probe findings with the US envoy.

Richard Holbrookes visit coincides with the Mumbai dossier, which Islamabad will be sharing with India and other countries on Monday.

Pakistan had been investigating the suspected involvement of Pakistan-based elements into Mumbai terror attacks on the information being shared by India. The dossier has been completed and Prime Minister Gilani said that it will be made public on Monday. (end) amn.tg KUNA 081453 Feb 09NNNN
