Washington : On Wednesday, the US Congress is investigating treatment the White House gave to prisoners suspected of terrorism amid another torture scandal.
CNN reported the House of Representatives Judicial Committee summoned several members of the George W. Bush administration for questioning.
Among them was David Addington, Chief of the Vice President Richard Cheney Cabinet.
On the previous week Kathryn Wheelbarger, Cheney’s legal advisor, said that Addington should agree to attend the hearing.
A few days later the Intelligence Committee of the Senate approved to limit the Central Intelligence Agency’s (CIA) interrogation methods forcing it to use techniques approved by the Army.
The initiative was included in a bill to fund recent intelligence operations in 2009 although a similar one was recently vetoed by Bush after being approved by the Congress.
The armed forces changed their procedures after the scandal for tortures against prisoners in jails of the Pentagon among them Abu Ghraib in Iraq and Guantanamo Naval Base in eastern Cuba, occupied illegally.
According to ABC TV, important government officials including Cheney personally approved torturing prisoners.
